Based on some of the leaked documents from Google’s gChips division, an Android Authority report claims that Google will launch a Pixel tablet powered by Tensor G6 in 2027. This will likely be the Pixel Tablet 3, Google’s second-generation tablet could launch in 2025. The G6 chip will debut in the Pixel smartphone lineup in 2026, and will power midrange Pixel smartphones and Pixel tablets the following year.
The document suggests that the Tensor G6 chip will feature a second “tablet-specific use case” USB-C controller compliant with the USB 3.2 standard. Supports DisplayPort output, allowing you to drive external displays. This can be further expanded to two displays by daisy chaining. The second USB-C port is reportedly placed on the opposite side of the controller for easier signal routing.
Besides the second USB-C port, Google is keeping the USB 2.0-powered pogo pins used in the speaker dock of the 2027 Pixel tablets. This shows that Google has no intention of abandoning the Pixel Tablet’s charging speaker dock.
2027’s Pixel tablets could focus on productivity
A second USB-C port with DisplayPort output helps turn Pixel Tablet 3 into a portable workhorse. This feature also works well with Android’s new desktop mode, which is currently in development and provides a larger canvas for running Android apps.
iPad can drive an external display through the primary USB-C port, and the Smart Connector lets you connect the device to the handy Magic Keyboard accessory. So it looks like Google wants to offer a similar experience on the Pixel Tablet 3. However, the device is still a few years away from launch and is in the early stages of development, so a lot could change by the time it’s ready for release.
