A day later, there was another report about the departure of an Apple executive. Today, that’s Sjoerd Gehring, Apple’s vice president of talent and head of recruiting, who is leaving to take a new role at Citadel. Here’s what that means for Apple.
A fresh start is likely related to Apple ending its prominent role
Just two days ago, word broke that Carol Surface, Apple’s first-ever chief human resources officer, would be leaving the company after a short 18-month tenure.
Today’s departure of Apple’s new talent vice president, Sjoerd Gehring, is almost certainly related.
why? That’s because Goering’s new role at Citadel is chief human resources officer.
Mark Garman writes: bloomberg:
Apple’s head of recruiting is leaving the company to become chief human resources officer at investment firm Citadel, people familiar with the matter said. This is a big new departure for the iPhone maker’s tumultuous human resources team.
Sheld Gehring, Apple’s vice president who oversaw talent management, immigration, recruiting and global human resources team management, will join the Miami-based hedge fund next month, people said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter has not been reported. Shared publicly.
Clearly, one domino toppled led to another domino toppling. When Surface left Apple, the company announced that her role would be taken over by head of retail Deirdre O’Brien.
Goering was likely at the top of the list for Apple’s new chief human resources officer, but the decision to terminate the role meant his chances of promotion were diminished.
Apple has recently undergone an unprecedented series of leadership changes, including changes to its CFO, head of procurement, and longtime hardware leaders.
