Amazon has finally upgraded its Kindle e-reader lineup with valuable additions to spice up your reading life.
Amazon said in a press release that the new Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition features a 7-inch “Colorsoft” display. The screen is a standout feature of this device as the company emphasizes visuals that are easy on the eyes. The post states that this display does not require a backlight, which is typical of regular screens.
Additionally, to improve Colorsoft Signature Edition’s colors, Amazon worked to develop a light guide that minimizes “stray light.” The tablet’s display also has additional custom coatings to enhance colors and improve optical performance. The post says users can also choose between “Standard” and “Vivid” color styles. All of this is done on an oxide backplane, which Amazon says provides better color contrast, faster response to page turns, and improved image quality.
Reading and note-taking go hand in hand, so Amazon offers ways to do it in more colors. Users who want to highlight text for rediscovery can choose to highlight it in yellow, orange, blue, or pink. Amazon added that Colorsoft Signature Edition has a pinch-to-zoom feature that allows the tablet to zoom in on images “without worrying about pixelation.”
Users with a lot of content in their Kindle library can rest assured with 32 GB of storage. Additionally, Amazon estimates that readers will get about eight weeks of battery life on one full charge. The tablet can be charged via a USB-C cord, but Amazon says users will have a wireless charging option available. However, the “Amazon Wireless Charging Dock” is sold separately.
Like the Kindle Paperwhite, the Colorsoft Signature Edition has an IPX8 waterproof rating. This tablet does not have a writing feature as it is reserved for Kindle Scribe. Users have the opportunity to purchase (separately) Audible support, parental controls, and a 6-month Amazon Kids Plus subscription.
Amazon’s first color e-book reader, Colorsoft Signature Edition, starts at $279. The post states that users can pre-order the device before the October 30th shipping date.
Upgrade your new Kindle
Colorsoft may be a newcomer, but Amazon has announced a series of next-generation tablets like the 2024 Kindle Scribe. Like its predecessor, the new model features a 10.2-in. However, Amazon has added a white border around the display. The company says it has made strides to make the screen smoother and more “paper-like” to bring the writing experience closer to the real thing.
AI is another highlight of Scribe in 2024, as state governments can leverage its software to summarize pages and notes into “succinct” bullet points. Amazon says its AI will convert your notes into an easy-to-read script font that you can share from your notes.
Amazon teased that “soon” users will be able to hide notes in Scribe’s sidebar. The 2024 Kindle Scribe is available for pre-order starting at $399. It will be shipped in December.
The next version of the Kindle Paperwhite arrives with a major upgrade to a 7-inch display from the previous model’s 6.8-inch screen. Amazon says increasing the “contrast ratio” makes the text and images in your stories pop off the page. Hardware-wise, the next-generation Kindle Paperwhite is said to be 25% faster, which means snappier response to digital page turns.
The company says elsewhere that the device combines speed with a thin frame. Amazon is touting this tablet as the thinnest Kindle ever. The base Paperwhite comes with 16 GB of storage, while the all-new Paperwhite Signature Edition comes with 32 GB.
You can pre-order the Kindle Paperwhite for $159 and the Signature Edition for $199. There’s also an upgraded Paperwhite Kids with a starting price of $179.
Even young children can pick up the next generation of Kindle Kids tablets. Amazon says the device has been upgraded with a glare-free display, along with faster page-turning response. The device has been upgraded to a 6-inch display that is 25% brighter. Users will enjoy 16 GB of storage and a battery life that can last around 6 weeks.
Kindle Kids (2024) is available for $129.
Additionally, Amazon offers a 2024 version of the basic Kindle tablet. The company says its entry-level device is small and pocketable thanks to a 6-inch display with 25% upgraded brightness levels. The tablet’s software improves responsiveness, enhances contrast ratio, and delivers up to six weeks of battery life.
Consumers can purchase the basic version of the Kindle for $109.
