You'll soon see the latest apps on your Android tablet's taskbar

Google plans to update the taskbar on Android tablets and foldable devices to display recently used apps.

Here’s what we know

The taskbar first debuted in Android 12L in 2022, giving users quick access to their favorite apps on their tablets. There are currently 6 pinned apps and 2 recommended apps on the taskbar. However, in the future, the two recommended apps will be replaced with the two recently used apps.

This feature has already been implemented in some devices from other manufacturers, such as OnePlus and Samsung. This innovation was discovered in the beta code of Android 15 QPR1. This feature is still in testing, so it’s unclear when it will be generally available. Apart from this, Android 15 QPR1 is likely to bring other innovations like lock screen widgets and quick keyword changes.
