TL;DR

  • Google is improving Chrome’s ability to listen to this page by adding support for background playback.
  • With this feature, you can now read web pages aloud even if you turn off your phone’s screen or switch to another app.

Earlier this year, Google introduced a useful accessibility feature to Chrome for Android that allows users to listen to web pages. It came with a full-fledged widget with playback controls and various audio options. However, there was no support for background playback. Google has addressed this shortcoming in its latest update to its browser app.

Background playback support for Chrome’s “Listen to this page” feature was first discovered shortly after it was rolled out to users in June of this year, but was hidden behind an experimental flag. 9to5Google We are reporting that it is being deployed to Android users using Chrome 130.

Once your device receives the update, Chrome will continue playing even if you turn off your phone’s screen or switch to another app. The notification media player provides basic controls and displays article headings and websites, but you must use Chrome’s playback widget to change playback speed and audio.

Chrome has a “Listen to this page” option in its three-dot menu. If you use this feature frequently, you can set it in your Chrome settings.[ツールバー]Go to shortcut options,[このページを聞く]You can add a shortcut next to the address bar by selecting the option.
