One of the most anticipated Apple Intelligence features, Genmoji, has arrived in iOS 18.2 beta. And there’s some very good news for users who don’t have an AI-enabled iPhone.
Anyone can send a Genmoji. You only need to receive it first.
Apple has always made it clear that Genmoji is an Apple Intelligence feature and only some of the newest iPhones support AI.
All of that is still true. To install the iOS 18.2 beta and create Genmoji, you need an iPhone 16 series model, or an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max.
But now we know the details of the story.
First, anyone can receive the sent Genmoji regardless of their device. Not that surprising, but nice to see.
But the bigger news is Discovered by my colleague Benjamin Mayo.which means that devices other than AI can also do this. Save those Genmojis to your own emoji librarythen send them too.
This is great news for the millions of iPhone users who don’t yet have an Apple Intelligence-enabled model.
If that’s you, just find a friend who has an iPhone 16 and iOS 18.2. Next, start a Genmoji request.
All source characters they send you can be saved in your library and reused by yourself.
And if you’re an entrepreneurial iOS 18.2 user, you might even start charging a few dollars a pop for custom Genmoji requests from the non-AI crowd.
Just kidding. Don’t do that, kids.
Have you tried Genmoji in the iOS 18.2 beta? Did it work for you? Let us know in the comments.
