Australian woman Matilda Campbell fell while trying to retrieve her dropped iPhone and became trapped upside down in a narrow rock crevice. ABC Newcastle.
The 23-year-old was taking photos in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley when she lost her phone. She tried to get it, but slipped and fell three meters, becoming wedged between two large rocks and hanging upside down by her feet. Although the report did not specifically mention an iPhone, Campbell’s social media accounts indicate that she was an iPhone user.
It took rescuers an hour to reach Campbell and several more hours to free her. NSW Ambulance paramedic Peter Watts said: ABC Newcastle Despite the situation, Campbell remained calm and collected. He said it was the most difficult and “unconventional rescue” he had ever experienced. NSW Ambulance shared images of the rescue on Facebook.
To free Campbell, rescuers had to remove seven rocks weighing between 80 and 500 kilograms, and they also had to construct a wooden frame in case the rocks splintered and fell. Campbell was trapped for about seven hours and ended up with scrapes, bruises and a cracked spine. She couldn’t get her “iPhone” back.
