With the release of the latest iPad, the 7th generation iPad Mini (A17 Pro), in October 2024, we would like to take a closer look at the latest iPad lineup. Currently, Apple officially sells six types of tablets, listed here from newest to oldest.
With many overlapping features and specifications, it can be difficult to decide which iPad best suits your needs. New iPad Mini
Apple iPad Mini (2024)
The 7th generation iPad Mini runs on Apple’s powerful A17 Pro processor, which powers the iPhone 15 Pro model. Configured to run Apple Intelligence AI features and supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C). It also has 128GB of base storage compared to 64GB on the previous generation.
Apple launched its newest iPad this month, the new iPad Mini (A17 Pro). The new tablet is available for pre-order now from Apple’s website ahead of its October 23 release date.
The 7th generation iPad Mini (A17 Pro) starts at $499 and is a mid-range option between the standard iPad and the latest premium iPad Pro and Air models. If you’re looking for the perfect balance of portability and performance, the iPad Mini may be the one for you.
The latest iPad Mini continues Apple’s modern iPad design with narrow borders and flat edges. It has the exact same 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display as the previous 6th generation iPad Mini.
The 7th generation iPad Mini runs on the A17 Pro processor from the iPhone 15 Pro model. This means you can run apps and games, whether basic or intensive, quickly and smoothly. It also runs Apple Intelligence AI functions.
Upgrade from previous 6th generation iPad Mini includes support for: Apple Pencil ProHowever, support for the 2nd generation Apple Pencil has ended in the new model. Also compatible with the new iPad Mini Apple Pencil (USB-C). Base storage has also been upgraded to 128GB from the previous generation’s 64GB, with 256GB and 512GB options available.
The new model numbers for the 7th generation iPad Mini are A2993 for the standard WiFi model and A2995 for the WiFi + Cellular model.
Latest iPad Pro models
Apple iPad Pro (2024)
The 2024 iPad Pro represented some of the biggest updates to the iPad Pro series, with an Apple M4 processor, an 11-inch or 13-inch OLED display, a thinner design, and a relocated front-facing camera.
Apple’s most premium tablet received a major update in May 2024 with the launch of the latest 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models.
Apple debuted its new M4 processor in iPad Pro, along with a series of AI-focused enhancements tailored to make the high-end tablet more powerful than ever and boost productivity.
Billed as Apple’s “thinnest” product to date, the iPad Pro boasts a slim design that measures 5.3 mm deep on the 11-inch model and 5.1 mm deep on the 13-inch model. Apple has introduced a new “tandem OLED” design for iPad Pro displays, offering improved brightness and clarity compared to previous LED and mini-LED displays in the Pro line.
Apple has released a new Magic Keyboard for 2024 iPad Pro models with feature rows and a larger trackpad, making the iPad Pro more of a laptop replacement. The latest iPad Pro is compatible with the USB-C Apple Pencil and the new Apple Pencil Pro, which has a “squeeze” sensor and gyroscope that enables a range of new features.
Generational improvements to the iPad Pro line have resulted in increased prices. The previous iPad Pro series started at $799, the new 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $999, and the new 13-inch iPad Pro starts at $1,299.
The model numbers for the latest 11-inch iPad Pro are A2836 for the standard WiFi model and A2837 for the WiFi + Cellular model. The model numbers for the 13-inch iPad Pro are A2925 for the standard WiFi model and A2926 for the WiFi + Cellular model.

Latest iPad Air models
Apple iPad Air (2024)
The 2024 iPad Air runs on Apple’s M2 processor, which will be introduced in select Apple computers in 2022, making it a truly ultra-portable powerhouse for visual creative work. With a standard 11-inch option and a new 13-inch model, you get a large, powerful tablet for a significantly lower price than the 13-inch iPad Pro.
Apple launched two new iPad Airs in May 2024. A complete overhaul of the classic 11-inch model and the first-ever 13-inch iPad Air.
Apple has upgraded iPad Air models from the M1 processor to the new M2 processor to run laptops like the 2022 MacBook Air and 2022 13-inch MacBook Pro, offering better performance for intensive tasks compared to previous-generation Air models. I tried to make it smooth.
Apple has moved the front camera of the new iPad Air to the horizontal position. This matches the new iPad Pro models and provides a more convenient position for video calls. The latest iPad Air models work with USB-C Apple Pencil and Apple Pencil Pro.
The latest 11-inch iPad Air starts at $599, the same price as the previous generation, and the new 13-inch iPad Air starts at $799.

Latest standard iPad
Apple iPad (2022)
The 10th generation iPad features the latest Apple tablet design, USB-C, and a central front camera for improved video calling. It performs basic tasks well on the older A14 Bionic chip, and recent price drops make it an attractive budget option.
Apple last released a standard iPad with the 10th generation iPad in October 2022.
The 10th generation iPad uses Apple’s modern design language and features slimmer bezels around a larger 10.9-inch screen compared to previous generation models. There’s a USB-C port instead of Lightning, and a Touch ID sensor is integrated into the power button. The biggest upgrade is repositioning the ultra-wide FaceTime camera to landscape orientation for a better viewing angle during video calls.
In terms of power, the 10th generation iPad is powered by Apple’s A14 Bionic chip, the same processor as the iPhone 12, and can handle everything from basic to moderately intensive tasks. For smoother, more powerful performance, choose the new iPad Pro or iPad Air.
The 2022 iPad supports USB-C Apple Pencil and first-generation Apple Pencil, but the latter requires an adapter to charge.
Following the launch of the latest iPad Pro and Air models, the starting price of the 10th generation iPad has dropped from $449 to $349. Apple also discontinued sales of the 9th generation iPad, leaving the 10th generation iPad as the only low-cost option in the current lineup.
The model numbers for the 10th generation iPad are A2696 for the WiFi model and A2757 for the WiFi + Cellular model.

How to see which iPad you own
Although all modern iPads look similar because each current model uses Apple’s latest tablet design language, the model number distinguishes each iPad model within and between generations.
As noted at the end of each section above, the iPad model number is a four-digit number with a leading letter, such as “A2995” for the new 7th generation iPad mini WiFi + Cellular model. It’s a code.
If you don’t know which model of iPad you have, you can find your iPad model number here: settings app by tapping common > About. The top section contains Model number (for example, A2995), or a “part number” as a combination of numbers, letters, and slashes (in the format XXXXXXX/A). If you see the latter, tap it to display the one-letter, four-digit model number.
