What are Days? A messaging app targeted by Gen Z fans becomes a hot topic on TikTok

The next big thing could be a messaging app called Daze, which hasn’t even launched yet.

Daze has AI built in, because it seems like everything in 2024 has an AI component built into it. It’s a messaging app aimed at Gen Z, designed to give you the freedom to use a variety of fonts, colors, graphics, movements, stickers, drawings, and more. TikToks posted by the app have gone viral, with the most viewed one receiving 8 million views.

On TikTok, you’ll see chats where someone talks to someone they like, flirts using Daze’s interactive features like drawings and games, and see if the other person likes them.

Mashable’s top stories

TechCrunch published a detailed article about Daze’s “explosion” ahead of its scheduled release on November 4th. Daze reported that there are 156,000 people on its waiting list. Still, the app currently has about 1,400 invite-only beta users. Daze is positioning itself as a more fun messaging app and appears to be using AI to power some of its creative tools.

“Our goal with Daze is to create a fully featured messenger that rivals the likes of iMessage and WhatsApp, but with a suite of truly fun and creative features,” says the founder. Willem Simons told TechCrunch. “You can quickly type your message and press send, or you can drag it anywhere in the chat. It’s easy to use and practical, but it’s also very freeing and unrestricted.”

Clearly, it remains to be seen whether there is a market for AI-focused messaging apps that aim to be more fun. Even if Daze was the next big thing, the next big thing often ends up being mostly hype and little substance. Remember Clubhouse?
