Vivo’s new flagship should give Android’s best camera phone bang for its buck

Important points

  • Vivo’s X200 series is now officially on sale in China, with a new mini version added to the lineup this year.
  • Vivo X200 Pro features a 50MP primary camera and a 200MP telephoto camera with a focal length of 85mm.
  • The entire X200 lineup is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip for increased efficiency and performance.

Vivo has little presence in the US smartphone market. However, the company dominates the sales charts in China and Asia with its impressive devices. The Vivo X100 series stands out for its excellent cameras, especially the X100 Ultra with its 200MP telephoto camera. The company is raising the bar even further by adding a new ‘mini’ model with its latest flagship lineup, the Vivo X200 series, which follows in the footsteps of Apple and Google.

Introducing the world’s first 200MP telephoto lens

Currently, Vivo has launched three phones in the X200 lineup in China: X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro mini. Perhaps next year we’ll see an Ultra model with even better specs. The X200 Pro mini is the latest product and comes with a 6.31-inch display.

Despite its compact size, it packs in the best parts of its Pro sibling. This includes a custom-designed 50MP Sony LYT-818 1/1.28-inch primary camera with f/1.57 aperture and Zeiss T* coating. Vivo claims that the new sensor can rival a 1-inch camera sensor in its image quality while offering superior video quality.

Vivo X200 Pro is the only one in the lineup with a 200MP telephoto camera with 85mm focal length offering up to 100x zoom. It also supports 20x macro photography. Other new camera-focused features include Pro Sports Mode, Super Stage Mode, and Landscape Long Exposure. The phone can record videos at 4K resolution at 120fps or 10-bit 60fps with Dolby Vision HDR, thanks to Vivo’s C3+ imaging chip.

Vivo also highlights support for Live Photos, which can be shared directly on social media platforms, similar to the iPhone.

Vivo’s latest flagship phone is the first in the world to use MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9400 chip. Manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm node, it features new Cortex-X925 CPU cores and a 12-core GPU. MediaTek’s new flagship Dimensity chip promises a massive 40% increase in power efficiency with double-digit performance improvements.

The X200 Pro features a 6.78-inch quad-curve screen with ultra-slim 1.6mm bezels on all sides. Vivo has partnered with Zeiss to tweak the display, which could reach the claimed peak brightness of 4,500 nits. A 6,000mAh silico anode battery powers the internals and supports 90W wired and 30W wireless fast charging.

In China, the Vivo X200 series will launch with OriginOS 5, which includes several AI features such as AI Circle to Search and Origin Island.

The Vivo X200 series is unlikely to make it to the US. However, it will be powered by Android 15-based Funtouch OS and will be launched in parts of Asia and Europe in the coming months.
