Vivo shipped 9.1 million units in India in the three months to September, a year-on-year growth of 26% and a market share of 19%, according to a Friday report from research firm Canalys.
Canalys says its growth has been driven by aggressive promotion across various sales channels. “Vivo has secured pole position thanks to new launches at higher price points and aggressive channel margins,” senior analyst Sanyam Chaurasia said in a report.
Chinese equipment maker Xiaomi came in second place with 17% of the market with 7.8 million units shipped, followed by South Korean tech giant Samsung with 16% of the market with 7.5 million units shipped.
“Both Vivo and Oppo leveraged their expanded online portfolios. [Vivo] T3 and [Oppo] K12 series to increase volume beyond traditionally strong offline channels,” Shaurasia wrote.
