Cash App data breach
Cash App is owned by Block, formerly known as Square. Back in 2022, the company disclosed a data breach that affected 8.2 million users.
The company revealed that the former employee continued to have access to U.S. customer information even though he left the company several months ago. Cash App is one of the most popular apps on iOS and a competitor to Apple’s own Apple Cash service.
As reported by TechCrunch, Cash App has notified approximately 8.2 million users about the breach. Information that former employees may have access to includes names and brokerage account numbers. In some cases, employees also had access to “the value of the securities portfolio, the amount held in the securities portfolio, and stock trading activity over a trading day.”
Company agrees to provide indemnification
Mr. Block did not admit liability in the class action lawsuit filed against the company, but agreed to compensate victims for the cost and time he spent dealing with the problem.
