The US Department of Commerce is currently investigating Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) for allegedly helping Huawei develop its latest smartphones and AI chipsets. Officials argued that Huawei’s latest advancements in accelerating China’s technology development are believed to be supported by TSMC and others.

It has emerged that TSMC is suspected of circumventing US 5G export restrictions imposed on Chinese companies, including Huawei, which is blocked from accessing US technology.

US investigates TSMC over technology sharing with Huawei

The Information shared a recent report claiming that the US Department of Commerce is investigating TSMC for its involvement with Huawei, support for the company, and alleged violations of 5G export regulations. Anonymous sources have revealed that US government agencies are currently investigating the aforementioned aid that TSMC provided to Huawei that enabled it to advance its technology in the wake of its latest devices.

The Information reports that TSMC may have helped Huawei, the Taiwanese company best known for its partnerships with Apple and others, produce much-needed smartphone chipsets. Additionally, sources claim that TSMC also helped Huawei design its own AI chips.

Despite this report, Commerce declined to share comment on the matter, but TSMC has already issued a statement (via Reuters) saying the company is a “law-abiding company” and will comply with any state-imposed restrictions. It said it had complied with the laws and regulations of the country.

The United States recently passed several laws that tighten restrictions on China’s access to American developments such as smartphone chips and AI technology amid continued tensions.

Huawei’s progress in Chinese technology

Recently, Huawei has rapidly developed advanced technologies such as smartphone chips and artificial intelligence systems, which are already emerging in the Chinese market and other parts of the world. The US is known to believe that Huawei is a “state-controlled entity” with ties to the Chinese government and is blocking access to US 5G chips.

US vs. China in Technology and Huawei

The rivalry between the United States and China in the world of technology continues, with both countries competing in different developments to stay ahead of the other and also prohibited from using each other’s technology to advance the other. are. Huawei is well known for its influence, with the Trump administration initiating sanctions against Huawei and the Biden leadership banning several companies from supplying products to Chinese companies.

But despite these massive restrictions on Chinese technology, it has performed better than expected overseas, with a surge in domestic Chinese development that has outpaced international rivals at home, especially U.S.-made equipment. . Additionally, Huawei has experienced significant growth earlier this year, with sales increasing 10% to $12 billion.

Suspicions have surfaced that Huawei still has access to U.S.-made technology despite restrictions and sanctions, and these suspicions are now raising concerns about organizations that may be supporting Chinese companies. It is connected to the investigation. TSMC has been suspected of involvement in Huawei’s recent rise to power, which has enabled it to develop sophisticated components, but the chip company has sidelined its side, claiming it has followed all restrictions imposed by the US. I’m defending it.
