Unable to remove Android phone from Windows Phone Link

Windows 11 Phone Link now has a new settings page that prevents users from removing existing Android devices.

Windows Phone Link is a tool that allows users to connect their Android device to their PC. The idea is that this connection will allow file transfers, the ability to send and receive messages, and access to photos stored on your Android smartphone. This is a useful tool if you want to control your mobile phone via your Windows PC.

Reports online first started indicating that something had changed in the way Phone Link manages existing connections (via XDA Developer). Users posted on the Windows Feedback Hub that the first three-dot menu on the phone link settings page is no longer available, and the option to disconnect the phone is gone. A response from a community administrator indicates that Microsoft may not be aware of this issue.

I opened the phone link on my device and was able to confirm that there is currently no way to remove the device from the phone link. The only option seems to be to sign out of Phone Link and start over.

This is fine for people who use a single device, but it can be annoying if Phone Link automatically connects to your device. If so, you can turn off automatic pairing.

It is unclear whether this is a bug or a design choice. It’s also unclear if Microsoft plans to fix this issue, as nothing has been announced about it.
