TROY, MI (FOX 2) – If you live in the Detroit metropolitan area and your new iPhone doesn’t show up on your doorstep, it could be one of the many stolen in a series of thefts.
The Troy Police Department announced on Facebook that an investigation revealed that there was a breach of information from a shipping company or cell phone service provider, resulting in multiple unrelated suspects receiving information about the iPhone delivery schedule. .
On Monday, October 21st, police located a suspect involved in an iPhone package theft in the Troy area. Police said they tracked the suspect into Sterling Heights and, with the assistance of detectives, arrested him. Police say three packages of stolen iPhones were found in the suspect’s car, all from Southfield, Utica, and another that the suspect allegedly stole from Sterling Heights. It was something.
The following Tuesday, Troy police tracked down another suspect involved in the theft and took him to West Bloomfield. West Bloomfield police then stopped the suspect’s vehicle, where four people were arrested. Five iPhones were found inside.
A few days later, on Thursday, Troy investigators found another suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Jose Junior Rosario, wearing a FedEx jacket and hat. Police said Rosario was seen driving to his home in Troy and wandering around the area for hours until the iPhone package was delivered.
Police said the man walked to the front door and realized the owner had gone home and had picked up the package. Meanwhile, the owner left a MacBook Pro laptop in the pouch to be returned in the package. Police said Rosario took advantage of the opportunity to grab the laptop package and leave.
Police pulled him over and arrested him. Police said there were a total of 16 new iPhones and one new iPad in the trunk of the car.
Rosario was arrested and charged with five counts of mail theft and driving with a suspended license.
His bond was set at $150,000.
