TL;DR
- The new Private Spaces feature introduced in Android 15 appears to be causing issues on Pixel 6 devices.
- Some users have reported that their device was bricked immediately after enabling this feature.
- It’s unclear how widespread the problem is.
Last week, Google rolled out Android 15 to all eligible Pixel devices. This update is packed with several new features, including a privacy tool called Private Space. If you have a Pixel 6 device, you may not want to enable Private Spaces at this time as some users claim to have blocked their phone.
For context, Private Space is a feature that carves out a space within your phone that is designed to be a separate and secure environment. Simply put, it’s like a digital safe where you can put your apps if you want to hide them from prying eyes.
After updating to Android 15, some Pixel 6 users on Reddit are reporting that their phone is broken. One user, GegoByte, claims that his Pixel 6 stopped working after enabling Private Spaces and trying to open apps installed there. Some commenters in the same thread said their devices were bricked after the Android 15 update, but they didn’t mention enabling Private Spaces. However, Homer_95 claims that his Pixel 6 Pro broke down some time after enabling Private Spaces.
It’s unclear if Private Spaces is actually the cause of this issue or if there are other issues with Android 15. However, some Redditors theorize that the issue may have something to do with Private Spaces acting as new user profiles, similar to a multi-user profile bug. It happened on Android 14.
It’s unclear how widespread this problem is. For what it’s worth, these are just a few reports. Android 15 and Private Space are working fine on my Pixel 6 Pro. However, we have reached out to Google for comment on this situation. We will update this article as new information becomes available.
