Apple will introduce the first Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.1, including writing tools, notification summaries, smart replies, and more. iOS 18.1 will be followed by iOS 18.2, which Apple began testing this week.
iOS 18.2 integrates Genmoji, Image Playground, and Siri ChatGPT, but there are still some Apple Intelligence features that won’t be introduced until much later.
Other Siri features
Apple is planning a major update to Siri, outlining new features that will make it even more useful. Siri can learn more about you through your interactions and actions on iPhone, but this personal context isn’t provided until a later update.
Personal context incorporates texts, emails, notes, and more, so you can ask Siri for things like a flight number embedded in an email or a recipe a friend once texted you. .
Siri will also be able to do even more with both first-party and third-party apps using in-app actions. Siri can edit a photo and send it to someone in the Messages app, or get a PDF from an email and save it to the Files app.
Siri can also retrieve information and take actions on third-party apps, such as getting weather information from Carrot Weather or scheduling an event on Fantastical.
The new Siri feature is expected to arrive in iOS 18.3 or iOS 18.4 in 2025.
Genmoji on macOS
macOS Sequoia 15.2 includes support for Image Playground, but Genmoji is not integrated at this time. You can create Genmojis on iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, but there is no Mac functionality to create custom emoji characters.
macOS memory movie
The Memory Movie feature, which lets you create slideshows from photos using text descriptions, is limited to iPhone and iPad with iOS/iPadOS 18.1 or later. In the future, it will also be included in macOS Sequoia.
