As announced in September, Google Wallet is starting to test the ability to create a digital ID using a U.S. passport. Can be used as some TSA checkpoints.
If you open the Add to Wallet menu for the renamed ID option, you’ll see that U.S. Passport (Beta) joins the existing Driver License or State ID option.
This three-step process begins by taking a photo of the passport information page that contains your photo (or manually entering that information) and scanning the security chip located inside the back cover of your passport. Masu.
- Place your passport on a flat surface.
- Please open the back cover of your passport.
- Please remove your phone case to scan.
- To find the chip, gently move the back of your phone along the inside of the back cover.
After that, you will have to send a short video of your face. Google “will review the video to ensure you’re authentic and compare the video to your passport photo to confirm you’re the passport holder.”
This Passport option in Google Wallet will be visible to users enrolled in the Google Play services beta. Requires Android 9 or later and is only available on domestic flights at select U.S. airports. You can use NFC to send information to the reader and ask the user to “Confirm shared information,” “Continue,” or “Cancel.”
Similar to your state ID, if you lose your phone, you can remove your ID pass remotely online.
