Apple has decided not to wait for another press event to announce the new member of the iPad tablet family. After numerous rumors, the guys from Cupertino have issued a press release announcing that a new version of the small tablet “iPad mini” will be released in late October. This will be the first new iPad mini model after 2021.
Apple said in a press release that the new iPad mini will have an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display. It’s also equipped with Apple’s in-house A17 Pro processor, which the company claims delivers 30% more CPU performance and 25% more GPU performance compared to the 2021 iPad mini.
The tablet ships with iPadOS 18, and Apple says that, like the recently launched iPhone 16 smartphones, the new iPad mini will be upgraded to iPadOS 18.1, which adds the first Apple Intelligence-generated AI features, in late October. It is said that it will receive an OS update.
Other hardware features of the new iPad mini include wireless hardware improvements to Wi-Fi 6E. The tablet’s USB-C port has also been improved and can handle data transfers of up to 10Gbps. The tablet comes with a 12MP rear camera and a 12MP ultra-wide front camera sensor.
Starting prices for the 2024 version of iPad mini are $499 for the Wi-Fi version and 128GB of onboard storage, and $649 for the Wi-Fi and cellular wireless versions with the same amount of storage. The tablet also offers 256GB and 512GB storage options.
For $59, you can get the new Smart Folio cover for your tablet, which comes in four colors: Blue, Purple, Starlight, and Space Gray, with Charcoal Gray, Light Violet, Denim, and Sage color options. The tablet is currently available for pre-order on the Apple Store website and will be generally available at Apple Stores and other retailers on October 23rd.
