Samsung’s monthly security updates are starting to roll out to its flagship series.
Users on the Galaxy S24 Ultra subreddit reported the start of the October 2024 security update rollout. Specifically, one user says the update has reached the AT&T US version of the latest Ultra model (via Android Police ). All three devices appear to have received this, as the changelog snapshot provided shows three version numbers ending in “.”AXI1. ”
Other users reported that the update affected T-Mobile devices in the US and Galaxy S24 Ultra in the EU.
Samsung’s patch notes that appear on the device are very light, with the company only highlighting “security improvements.” However, the download arrives as a 442.22MB payload and directs you to Samsung’s official update board.
The company listed two “urgent” and 28 “high-level” fixes in October. In addition to fixes for Samsung Semiconductor, this security patch also includes important fixes for Knox Guard. Samsung says the fix eliminates the possibility for “physical” hackers to bypass security features.
Additionally, it includes several fixes to resolve “inappropriate” access to ActivityManager and an “out of range” issue that was plaguing Android 12-14 devices.
On Google’s side, the bulletin states that three framework fixes and four system fixes were provided.
The update is starting to roll out today (October 10), and users may see it later in the week. To manually verify the download/installation, go to the following link: [設定]>[ソフトウェア アップデート]>[ダウンロードとインストール].
Samsung has been relatively quiet on the software front, which is surprising considering the Android 15 delay. While Google is rumored to release a major update in October, Samsung says Galaxy enthusiasts will have to wait until 2025. The Korean OEM unveiled a redesign. One UI 7 (Android 15) is scheduled for Galaxy S24 Ultra during SDC 2024. Samsung plans to separate the notification panel and quick settings menu in One UI 7.
Additionally, Quick Settings now has a more curvaceous, rounded look, and customization has been added, making the whole rework more Apple-like.
This isn’t all bad, though, as Samsung’s moderators have said that users could expect a public beta program to start later this year. Samsung only mentioned the developer during the SDC, so it was mentioned in a community forum post asking about this. However, we are still waiting for “confirmation” of the schedule before confirming the start of the public beta.
Returned to the top in good spirits
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra redefines what it means to have a slab phone in your hands. The device ditches the curved display for a completely flat experience embedded in a titanium frame with anti-glare technology. That means 6.8 inches of prime real estate makes everything from scrolling to watching videos immersive and fun.
