Just a few days ago, Samsung finally confirmed that it is planning to launch a new foldable phone. And now, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has been officially announced.
In a press release (translated), Samsung wasted no time in pointing out the improvements this model has over the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Z Fold Special Edition is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, being “1.5mm thinner and 3g lighter.” ” However, these are not the only improvements Samsung has made.
Both the cover screen and main display are large, measuring 6.5 inches and 8 inches respectively. As a result, both screens are also a bit wider, which is something many expected Samsung to implement with the Z Fold 6. Anything other than social scrolling is less cumbersome, especially considering other foldable phones have wider cover screens. Access media and instantly reply to messages.
The Z Fold Special Edition is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as the Galaxy, but with 16GB of RAM instead of 12GB. Considering the influx of Galaxy AI features introduced over the past year, this shouldn’t be too surprising, as we should see a bit more performance and reliability when using these features.
Samsung hasn’t released the full spec list for the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition yet, but it has one more trick up its sleeve. The Z Fold 6’s outdated 50MP sensor has been replaced with a 200MP wide-angle lens, which “supports sharper, sharper photos and videos.”
Considering this is a “special edition”, Samsung has only selected one color option – Black Shadow. The company says, “The combination of the striped pattern and metal and glass materials has created a modern and sophisticated design.”
There are a few things Samsung doesn’t mention about its latest devices. For example, whether we’ll continue to support the S Pen or potential battery improvements. To know everything about this model, we may have to wait until the phone is available for purchase.
In terms of price and availability, the Z Fold Special Edition is priced at 2,789,600 KRW (approximately $2,035) and pre-orders are scheduled to begin on October 25th. However, there is a catch, as it appears to be sold only by Samsung. The phone is sold in South Korea, the company’s home country.
There is no mention or hint as to whether it will be released globally or if it will appear in other markets.
