Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series receives minor updates every year, and it can be said that it has been in a stagnation, lagging behind foldable products made in China. Introducing the Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition, which was just announced in South Korea. The large display, slim profile, and 200MP main camera alleviate some of the Z Fold6’s pain points.
So what’s so special about the new Z Fold6 in the first place?
First of all, a large cover and main screen. 6.5 inch LTPO AMOLED 2X cover screen. Expanding from the Z Fold6’s 6.3-inch panel, it has an updated 21:9 aspect ratio, bringing it closer to what you’d expect from a regular barphone display.
The main screen has grown to 8 inches and has a 10:9 aspect ratio. Both panels feature a 120Hz refresh rate and feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the top of the external panel. Rumors of a switch to Ultra Flexible Glass (UFG), an updated version of Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) for foldable panels, appear to have never materialized as Samsung hasn’t said anything about it.
The Special Edition Z Fold6 is even slimmer, measuring 4.9 mm unfolded and 10.6 mm folded. Weight has been reduced to 236 grams, 3 grams lighter than the Z Fold6. Achieving this slim profile required sacrifices, as the new special edition lacks S Pen support.
There’s also a notable upgrade in the camera department, with the 200MP main shooter with OIS offering a noticeable improvement over the Z Fold6’s 50MP main cam. The 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens has autofocus, which is a big plus. The 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom carries over as well as the dual selfie cameras – 10MP on the cover display and a 4MP UD unit on the main screen.
The Z Fold6 Special Edition is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and is available in a single 16GB RAM and 512GB storage trim. Connectivity has also been improved with the addition of Wi-Fi 7. The Z Fold6 doesn’t have it enabled yet.
The software side is handled by Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 with Galaxy AI. Samsung provides 7 years of software support.
The battery is the same 4,400mAh cell used in the Z Fold6, with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.
Samsung is offering the Z Fold6 Special Edition in one color, Black Shadow. Pricing in Korea 2,789,600 won This translates to $2,028/€1,868.

Unfortunately, the device is currently exclusive to South Korea, and rumors say it will only be launched in China (possibly as the Galaxy W25), without stepping out of these two markets.
