Samsung has finally announced the long-awaited Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Just when we were under the impression that Samsung was getting left behind in this game, the Korean company unveiled its thinnest and largest foldable smartphone yet. It also has the best camera setup ever seen on a foldable Galaxy smartphone.
This foldable smartphone is something of a technology showcase for Samsung. This will allow the brand to showcase its capabilities and show that it can compete with ultra-slim, high-spec foldable smartphones from Chinese brands.
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition delivers the highest specifications
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition features the largest screen ever on a foldable Galaxy smartphone. It’s also Samsung’s lightest, widest, and thinnest foldable phone yet. It is only 10.6mm thin when folded and 4.9mm thin when unfolded. Despite having a bigger screen and better camera, it weighs 236g, which is 3g lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition features an 8-inch dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity Flex display with QXGA+ resolution, 20:18 aspect ratio, and HDR10+. The front of the phone features a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen. Thanks to the 21:9 aspect ratio of the cover screen, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition feels like a regular smartphone when closed.
Samsung has equipped this device with a 200MP primary rear camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, 10MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom), 10MP selfie camera (external), and 4MP selfie under-display camera (internal). Its primary, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras are similar to Samsung’s current generation flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has an even better super telephoto camera.
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition can record 4K 60fps video using all cameras (except the built-in selfie camera) and 8K 30fps video using the primary camera.
Samsung’s limited edition flagship folding phone uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy chip inside. It comes standard with 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. It runs One UI 6.1.1 based on Android 14 out of the box with seven major Android OS updates.
The phone’s connectivity features include GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Despite the larger screen, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition uses the same 4,400mAh battery as the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Only one color is available: black shadow.
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will initially be launched in South Korea. It will then head to China as the Samsung W25. Samsung hasn’t said whether it will sell the device in other markets.
