Samsung is keen to incorporate AI into every aspect of life, but that could mean one major removal from Galaxy smartphones. An ETNews report points to a future where models like the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will have AI features but no settings menu. According to the article, Samsung believes the AI in its phones can predict your needs without you having to make any adjustments, making settings a redundant feature.

The concept is part of Samsung’s desire to make its Galaxy smartphones fully AI-powered. The exact format of the zero-configuration smartphone has not yet been revealed, but the device’s AI could be used in combination with conversations with the user and ways for the user to adjust the device’s performance without requiring configuration. We already have hints on how. Some of the menu adjustments that are currently common. This will include many aspects of smartphone performance. That means basic things like notifications, screen brightness, layout, etc.

According to the report, Samsung’s main focus when using AI to replace settings seems to be the camera and keyboard. This is not surprising since it is used in the widest possible way. There are a lot of photo editing options, but these days your device handles much of the photo quality enhancement before you do anything. Adding AI to the equation could extend its capabilities in subtle but useful ways, such as automatically switching to night mode or adapting to location and settings.

For keyboards, AI could help personalize input. Auto-predicted words are usually about the most common phrases, but the AI can also adjust these factors to best suit your actual writing style and word preferences. Personalization and automation are Samsung’s watchwords.

AI prediction

In a sense, smartphone manufacturers have been moving in this direction for years. When was the last time you manually adjusted your battery settings beyond the norm to save battery? The question, of course, is whether the AI can predict complex and ever-changing configuration settings. When do you want your phone to be brighter? Which apps should have their volume set lower or higher?

For the average user, letting AI handle settings means fewer distractions and no more having to sort through menus every time you want to adjust a certain part of your phone. Automating tasks and anticipating needs could help Samsung’s AI capabilities and devices stand out in an increasingly crowded field. That said, how Samsung collects and uses the data it needs for AI to make these adjustments will likely be important for Samsung to explain. Everything could run on the device without having to share personal information, but if it didn’t, people might not want to try it.

[設定]Don’t expect the menu to disappear quickly. There’s no timeline yet, but it could be part of Samsung’s next major software update when Android 15-based One UI 7 arrives for the Galaxy S series.
