Samsung President TM Roh attends Snapdragon Summit to discuss Galaxy S25 chip and XR. Qualcomm plans to launch its next flagship mobile chipset this month. Samsung is preparing to source all chips for its Galaxy S25 series from Qualcomm.
According to Hankyoung (via Jukanlosreve/X), Samsung Prez TM Roh will attend the Snapdragon Summit to discuss the development of the Galaxy S25 series chips and XR devices with Qualcomm and Google.
TM Roh’s discussion will also focus on strengthening cooperation between Samsung and Qualcomm. The official is scheduled to board a plane to Hawaii next week to attend Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, where the Snapdragon 8 Elite (8 Gen 4) will be announced.
Samsung is just as important to Qualcomm as Google. Most Android vendors use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, only Samsung sells the majority of flagship phones powered by the next Snapdragon.
Snapdragon 8 Elite is the first Qualcomm SoC manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process technology. Therefore, the meeting with Qualcomm management, including TM Roh and CEO Cristiano Amon, will focus on chip supply and price negotiations.
Previously, Samsung was planning to use Exynos 2500 along with Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, the company’s foundry division is in crisis with lower-than-expected yields. Therefore, the next generation Galaxy S models will be able to use Snapdragon 8 Elite exclusively.
There are persistent concerns that if Samsung relies solely on Qualcomm for all its chip supplies, prices could rise significantly. President Roh’s visit to Hawaii is therefore an important and welcome move as part of the price freeze.
