It seems like Samsung just announced its Galaxy S24 lineup, and it’s been almost a year since then. You know what that means. As we approach a potential release date of early 2025, it’s time to start taking note of the biggest rumors for the Galaxy S25.
There are still a few months until the Galaxy S25’s likely announcement date, but there are plenty of rumors to sustain us until then. With Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 8 chip and beautifully thin bezels (finger in your mouth) likely to be different, we can’t wait to see more renders and leaks of the Galaxy S25 as the launch date approaches.
We’ve compiled everything we’ve gathered so far about the Samsung Galaxy S25 flagship, from its expected release date and price to design changes and expected spec upgrades.
Samsung Galaxy S25 price and release date
Samsung doesn’t necessarily release the new Galaxy S lineup in the same month every year, but we can still give you a rough guess of when.
Based on past releases, the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra are expected to be released in early 2025. However, it is unclear in what month Samsung will launch its next smartphone lineup.
- Galaxy S24 release: January 31, 2024
- Galaxy S23 release: February 17, 2023
- Galaxy S22 release: February 25, 2022
- Galaxy S21 release: January 29, 2021
For the past four years, Samsung has released new Galaxy S series phones in late January or February. For comparison, Samsung has historically moved up its release dates, as early Galaxy S series phones used to launch in late May and June. We’ll probably end up with Samsung’s flagship model launching alongside Apple’s flagship in September.
So I think it’s a safe bet to think that Samsung will try to match the January release date for the Galaxy S24 lineup, or maybe launch it a little earlier.
When it comes to pricing, Samsung has consistently kept the launch price of its base Galaxy S series phones at $799 over the past four lineups. Hopefully, that won’t change with the Galaxy S25.
- Galaxy S24 base release price: $799
- Galaxy S23 base launch price: $799
- Galaxy S22 base release price: $799
- Galaxy S21 base release price: $799
Samsung Galaxy S25 design
The only smartphone in Samsung’s Galaxy S25 lineup that appears to have a slightly changed design is the Galaxy S25 Ultra, with its sharp corners reportedly (via Android Headlines) now softer and slightly rounded. (but not as round as the S21 Ultra, somewhere in between).
The Galaxy S25, on the other hand, looks almost identical to the Galaxy S24. According to Android headlinesThe Galaxy S25 is expected to feature the same 6.2-inch display as the Galaxy S24, but with different dimensions. The Galaxy S25 reportedly measures 146.9 x 70.4 x 7.2 mm, which is slightly smaller than the Galaxy S24’s dimensions of 147 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm.
Samsung Galaxy S25 specs
Samsung’s current Galaxy S24 lineup, from the base Galaxy S24 to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The upcoming Galaxy S25 lineup may not follow this.
Google DeepMind website article (via) tom’s guide), Google’s team appears to be hinting that some of Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup may be powered by MediaTek chipsets rather than the long-standing Qualcomm chip upgrade. As of October 8th, this suggestive quote has been removed from the Google DeepMind article, so there is no longer any mention of MediaTek Dimensity chips or Samsung.
Performance and efficiency will be a bigger deciding factor between the base Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Ultra if Samsung reserves the more expensive Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip for its most premium smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Ultra .
According to Android headlinesthe Samsung Galaxy S25 is also expected to feature 12GB of RAM (similar to the Galaxy S25 Plus), a base storage amount of 128GB, and a similar battery life to its predecessor with a 4,000 mAh battery.
Perhaps the most exciting rumored spec for the Galaxy S25 is its display. The Galaxy S25’s display is not expected to grow much, if at all, in size, but it should have thinner bezels than the Galaxy S24.
A pretty reliable tipster, Ice Universe, shared the image (via Android headlines) Tempered glass screen protectors for Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series phones — and they all display impressively thin bezels. Interestingly, the bezels on the Galaxy S25+ appear to be slightly thicker than the Galaxy S25.
Samsung Galaxy S25 camera
At this time, we have not heard any rumors regarding improvements to the Galaxy S25’s camera array. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
If the Galaxy S25 keeps all the same camera specs as the Galaxy S24, it will still be in great shape for taking sharp and vibrant photos. Your existing Galaxy S24 camera array will look like this:
- 12MP front camera
- 50MP main wide rear camera
- 12MP ultra-wide-angle rear camera
- 10MP telephoto rear camera
- 3x optical zoom, 2x optical quality, 20x spatial zoom
outlook
I love smartphones with great cameras, so the Galaxy S25 Ultra may have won me over at the moment, but the Galaxy S25 is a solid choice for someone who’s simply looking for a smartphone with a great camera. We think it will be a budget-friendly option. Next generation performance improvements.
We’re obviously still quite far away from the Galaxy S25’s launch, so we’ll likely hear more rumors and reports over the next year and update this article. But for now, it looks like the Galaxy S25 is worth waiting for if you think your existing phone will last you a few more months.
