Samsung seems intent on refreshing the mid-range and low-end devices in its Galaxy A lineup. The company recently launched Galaxy A16 5G with flagship-level software support. Another upcoming device is the Galaxy A36 5G, whose design has been leaked in renders. Leaked renders show that the Galaxy A36 5G’s design deviates from the guidelines Samsung has been using for its latest mobile devices. The exterior is still clean and minimalistic, but it’s a little less so thanks to the camera module around the rear sensor.
For the past few years, Galaxy smartphones have opted for module-less rear camera designs. Samsung places each sensor independently and does not provide any connections between them. According to leaked renders, the Galaxy A36 5G breaks this trend by surrounding the rear camera with an elongated pill-shaped module. Another notable change in the design of the Galaxy A36 5G is the presence of a punch hole for the front camera. . Previous models in the Galaxy A3x lineup used a U-shaped notch. This change gives the company’s next-gen Android midranger a more modern and appealing look.

Perhaps Samsung is looking for ways to further differentiate its low-end and high-end devices. Another possibility is that this design is a preview of what will be featured in all future smartphones from the company. Leaks regarding the Galaxy S25 series have already given us an idea of what it will look like and it won’t be following this path.

Galaxy A36 5G is expected to launch in early 2025 and will run Android 15 with One UI 7.0 out of the box. As both a technologist and a consumer, I’m excited to see what Samsung does with the Galaxy A36 5G. I’m particularly interested in how the new camera module design impacts the phone’s performance. I’m also interested to see if Samsung continues to use this design for future devices.
