The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold SE uses the same UTG display technology as other Fold models. It is speculated that the company has applied new technology as part of reducing the overall thickness and making the phone sleek and slim.

TheElec reports that the Galaxy Z Fold SE comes with UTG display technology. The rumored UTI components have not yet been approved for mass production. Therefore, the new display technology is expected to be included in future Galaxy Z Fold models.

The Fold Slim was rumored to feature UTG with selective etching. To achieve this, the company needed to reduce the thickness of its folding film. However, the UTI was reportedly put on hold due to technical issues.

That said, thickening the UTG increases surface hardness and reduces visible wrinkles in the center of the foldable panel. Selectively etched UTG is being explored by Samsung and Apple for future foldable products.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 has around 60-70 hinge components and Z Fold SE has around 130-140 hinge components. You can clearly see that Samsung used almost twice as many components in the SE’s hinge to make the smartphone slimmer.

The backplate (support structure) of Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold SE is made of titanium. Compared to traditional aluminum materials, it is more difficult to process but has a higher strength-to-weight ratio.

The Special Edition Foldable has a folded thickness of 10.6 mm, which is 1.5 mm thinner than the Z Fold 6’s 12.1 mm thickness. By removing the digitizer, the folded thickness is reduced by 0.6 mm, and an additional 0.9 mm is shaved off.
