The Resident Evil 2 remake will be released on Apple iPhone, iPad, and Mac on December 31st, and publisher Capcom has revealed that players will be able to enjoy a free trial before purchasing it outright.
Capcom revealed detailed information about the port, which was announced at the same time as the Apple version of Resident Evil 7 in June, in a Japanese press release translated by Siliconera. No release date was specifically mentioned, but the Apple App Store was updated with the new information on December 31st.
Resident Evil 2 will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, and all subsequent Apple mobile releases. All iPads and Macs with Silicon also support the game, and purchasing it on one of these platforms will give you access to it on the other.
Touch controls are supported, but the listing states that a fully functional video game controller is recommended. “Although you can play on an iPad, using a controller will give you a better experience,” the page says.
The Resident Evil 2 remake, unsurprisingly, arrived in 2019 as a remake of the 1998 original. “This is how you remake a classic,” IGN said in a 9/10 review. “Resident Evil 2 expertly brings back the terrifying atmosphere and moments of extreme tension that made the original so revered.”
