Report claims easy battery removal technology coming to iPhone 17 Pro

Apple’s 16 series iPhones were launched just last month, but the rumors never stop. We’ve already gotten a lot of leaks and hints about updates and new features coming to the next generation of iPhones in 2025, or in this case existing features coming to a wider range of handsets.

This fall, Apple introduced a new space-age battery adhesive to the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus…but not the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. When an electric current is applied, the adhesive “peels off”, making it easy to remove the handset’s battery when you want to, but also keeping it firmly in place when you don’t want to remove it. (This technique will be discussed in another article.) This is obviously helpful since the battery is one of the most consumable and needs to be replaced, and being easily removable makes repairs easier. Masu.

Considering how attractive it is, it’s no surprise that Apple would want to offer it on as many phones as possible, especially premium models. And sure enough, leaker Majin Bu claimed yesterday that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature the new adhesive technology, based on “information available to me.”

From the information I have been able to get, it looks like the entire iPhone 17 series will feature new battery adhesives and will use electrically induced adhesive peel technology.

It may seem odd that Apple would limit new features to the cheaper version of the iPhone 16, when Apple clearly wants to upsell its Pro models to customers. However, this is not entirely unprecedented for a new feature that the company considers experimental. The low-cost 10th generation iPad had a landscape FaceTime camera years before the more expensive iPad, and while it’s now considered an undeniable improvement, at the time Apple may not have been convinced that it would be well received. Similarly, there are rumors that next spring’s lower-priced new iPhone SE will benefit from the company’s 5G modem before other iPhones. It sounds like a strange strategy, but it minimizes the risk that expensive premium models will run into unexpected problems.
