“We’re very excited to bring the power of Qualcomm Oryon to the Snapdragon mobile platform for the first time. Earlier this year, we debuted it on PC, giving PC users a great experience and unmatched battery life. Today, our 2nd generation Qualcomm Oryon CPUs debut on our flagship mobile platform. This is a significant advancement, and we expect consumers to be excited about the new experiences enabled by our CPU technology. – Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Phones, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
With the new Oryon CPU cores, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8 Elite is expected to deliver a 45% increase in both single-core and multi-core performance, and a whopping 62% increase in web browsing. AP showed a 40% improvement in gaming performance and a 35% improvement in raytracing. The latter is used to show the path of light in the game, including how the light interacts with objects in the scene. The bottom line? More realistic reflections, refractions, and shadows in mobile games. When it comes to gaming, this chip extends battery life for gameplay by up to 2.5 hours.
Snapdragon 8 Elite’s AI ISP (Image Signal Processor) is tightly integrated with Hexagon NPU for enhanced and intuitive capture. Other photo-related features from ISP on this chip include the use of Insight AI to enhance natural skin and sky tones even in the most difficult conditions. Video Object Eraser allows you to remove unwanted elements from videos directly on your device. With ISP, you can capture clear video at 4K60 FPS, even in near darkness.
“With cutting-edge CPU, GPU, and NPU features, Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers dramatic performance improvements and power efficiency3. Additionally, by delivering personalized, multimodal generative AI directly on the device, , enables speech understanding and revolutionizes the mobile experience. Use context and images to improve everything from productivity to creativity tasks while prioritizing user privacy.” – Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets,
The chip also features an improved NPU (Neural Engine) with additional cores and up to 45% faster speeds. Snapdragon X80 5G modem uses AI to manage multi-antenna connections to get the clearest signal. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are integrated, so calls that are out of Bluetooth range are immediately switched to Wi-Fi for a seamless transition. The modem has a peak download speed of 10 Gbps and a peak upload speed of 3.5 Gbps.
