Qualcomm announces significantly improved flagship smartphone SoC “Snapdragon 8 Elite”

At today’s Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm will officially announce its flagship SoC for smartphones, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Snapdragon 8 Elite is a significant upgrade from the previous generation, with improvements across the board. Qualcomm will also change the naming scheme for its flagship SoC from Snapdragon 8 Gen X to Snapdragon X Elite.

Snapdragon 8 Elite is built using TSMC’s 3nm process node, delivering significant performance and efficiency improvements. For the first time, Qualcomm is equipping a smartphone with its in-house developed Oryon custom ARM CPU. The new Prime Core and Performance Core architectures feature 24 MB cache and can reach frequencies of 4.32 GHz, delivering performance improvements such as:

  • 45% increase in single core
  • 45% multi-core improvement
  • 63% improvement in web browsing performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite’s GPU delivers 40% more performance and 35% more ray tracing. Snapdragon 8 Elite is a huge step forward when it comes to AI performance with NPU. With the fastest Qualcomm Hexagon NPU (6-core vector accelerator and 8-core scalar accelerator), you can get 45% better performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 NPU.

In addition to improved performance, Snapdragon 8 Elite also offers superior power efficiency. Qualcomm claims power-saving improvements such as:

  • 44% CPU
  • 40% GPU
  • 45% AI performance/watt
  • 27% of total SoC

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is powerful when it comes to camera features, supporting 4.3 gigapixels per second and increasing throughput by 33%. Features unlimited segmentation, AI rewriting, AI pet suite, video magic eraser, and more. In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is equipped with a Snapdragon X80 modem, Qualcomm FastConnect 7900, and supports Wi-Fi 7.

Qualcomm is expected to reveal more details about the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC later today. With superior specifications and features, this new SoC is ready to power the next generation of premium smartphone experiences.

Qualcomm has revealed that several Android OEM companies, including ASUS, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, RealMe, Samsung, Vivo, Xiaomi, etc., are planning to launch smartphones powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite. .
