Google has finally created a full-fledged weather app for Android smartphones, but until now it was limited to Pixel 9 smartphones. It’s now rolling out to other Pixel smartphones as well.
Google has released the Pixel Weather app for Pixel 6 and newer devices, including Pixel Tablets. You must update your app in the Google Play Store to allow app notifications and precise location. However, doing this will give you access to a number of new settings. This includes sortable cards in the weather block, a new two-column layout for tablets and foldable devices, and access to data such as precipitation, wind, sunrise and sunset, humidity, and barometric pressure, among other information such as UV index. It aims to be the last weather app you’ll ever need, and while remaining relatively simple, it has very detailed features. I’ve used it myself a few times on my Pixel 9 Pro and it’s great.
This app is available as a new version of the com.google.android.apps.weather background service that leverages Google Clock’s existing city temperature. If you don’t see an update yet, you may need to update to Android 15 first, but if you have a Pixel 6, be careful not to update now.
