According to data from Pixalate, this report identifies Apple App Store-hosted mobile apps that have open programmatic advertising enabled but no privacy policy detected (i.e., apps with an app-ads.txt file). New research has revealed the numbers. Pixalate also released the Google Play Store version of the report.
A privacy policy, also known as a “privacy statement” or “notice,” is an important document that is often required to be disclosed under multiple global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and others. Main findings
- Over 17,000 Ad-supported Apple App Store apps (app-ads.txt files) failed to provide a discoverable privacy policy.
- 6,000 Apple App Store Ad-supported apps were found without a privacy policy URL in the App Store, only a hyperlink to a shared developer website. According to Pixalate’s analysis, hyperlinks on the developer’s website did not disclose a privacy policy.
- Estimation 23.9 million Monthly active users (MAUs) interact with App Store apps that contain ads but do not detect privacy policies.
- 5,422 Unique mobile app developer published on 17,000 Apps containing ads with no privacy policy detected.
- 12,920 Apple App Store apps that contain ads and have no privacy policy detected do not have a list of countries registered in the App Store.
To compile this research, Pixalate’s data science team analyzed over 236,000 mobile apps available for download across the Apple App Store in September 2024.
