After launching a native app for macOS last month, Perplexity AI officially released a version of its app for Mac on Thursday. Users can now more easily interact with the platform without relying on the web version.
Perplexity app now available on Mac
For those unfamiliar, Perplexity is a generative AI-based conversation and search tool that uses a proprietary large-scale language model (LLM), similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The platform was founded in 2022 and stands out by providing accurate answers and better summarizing web content. Users can also choose the sources that Perplexity searches.
Perplexity had confirmed that it would release a native Mac app on October 15th, but that release was eventually postponed. Perplexity for macOS is finally available for download.
The Mac app allows users to take advantage of features such as professional search with voice or text input, thread follow-up to continue conversations, source tracking, history search, and more. “Puzzle — where knowledge begins. Find the answers you need right away. Ignore all the noise and get trusted, up-to-date answers directly to you,” the app’s description says.
The release of the Mac app comes four months after ChatGPT introduced its native app for macOS, and just one week before the official release of Apple Intelligence for supported Macs.
The Perplexity app for macOS is available in the Mac App Store and is free to download, but users can also subscribe to Perplexity Pro. An iOS version of the app is also available in the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
