Oppo is adding a new feature to the upcoming Find X8 with a shutter button that works exactly like Apple’s iPhone 16’s new “Camera Control” feature.
In a Weibo post, Oppo’s Zhou Yibao shared a video previewing the pressure-sensitive camera’s shutter button. Android permissions first discovered. This feature allows users to double-tap to open the camera and press the button again to take a photo. You can also swipe the button to zoom in or out.
Of course, this isn’t actually a “button”, it’s just a pressure-sensitive strip on the side of the device that acts like a button.
If all of this sounds familiar, that’s because it’s essentially the same as “Camera Control,” a feature Apple introduced with the iPhone 16 series. There, users only need to press once to open the camera, but the swipe and ability to use the pressure-sensitive area as a shutter button works similarly to Oppo’s implementation. Although Oppo follows Apple into the market, the feature would have been in development long before Apple’s announcement, so just because Apple released it doesn’t mean the company is copying Camera Control. Not that there are.
Oppo also highlights that this experience, such as swipe, works even when the phone is underwater, allowing you to use the camera even when the touchscreen is unavailable.
The Oppo Find X8 series will be released as early as later this month, and could be released worldwide within next year. It may also offer an updated camera and new design compared to the Find X7 Ultra pictured above.
