OnePlus adds new ‘Share to iPhone’ tool in Android 15 [Gallery]

OnePlus (and Oppo) has launched a new solution for wirelessly sharing files with iPhone users. All of this is included in the latest Android 15 update. But…well…it probably won’t be that popular.

Within OxygenOS 15, OnePlus has launched a new “Share to iPhone” button in the sharing menu. The button is prominently displayed and, as OnePlus describes it, is intended to “simplify” file sharing between OnePlus and iPhone devices.

OnePlus says:

The “Share to iPhone” feature simplifies file sharing between OnePlus and iPhone devices. For OnePlus users, file sharing can be activated through a built-in settings option, eliminating the need for additional downloads. iPhone users must download the “O+Connect” app to share. This cross-platform feature highlights OxygenOS 15’s commitment to facilitating more accessible sharing experiences and improving user convenience and satisfaction.

Can you spot the problem?

Although this is not a very easy solution for OnePlus users, far It’s easy for iPhone users. Rather, you need to download an app. OnePlus humorously mentions this solution right after saying:[eliminates] Additional downloads required. ”

The process only requires something as simple as sharing a photo. On OnePlus’ side, users select the photo, video, or file they want to share, open the share menu and tap “Share to iPhone.”

Meanwhile, iPhone users, if they don’t already have the “O+ Connect” app, must first download it from the App Store, give the app a set of permissions, and keep it open until their iPhone appears on OnePlus. there is. user. The OnePlus device will then select the iPhone shown and request to share the file. At this point, iPhone users must join a Wi-Fi hotspot initiated by their OnePlus device and ask for permission each time before transferring files. While this is going on, your OnePlus device will also be temporarily disconnected from Wi-Fi.

This process is not very fast. In our tests, sharing a single photo at least 30 seconds from start to finish. This assumes both users are fully set up and have no issues at all.

In the real world, this almost always doesn’t work. The time required to download the app, set it up, and set up all the permissions alone will cause most users to look for another solution like Google Drive, email, or RCS messaging. It’s probably much more useful for large files, such as long 4K videos or other large files, but it’s still not a completely elegant solution. It’s clear that this solution was built primarily for other regions, especially considering that the “O+ Connect” app is also used by Realme, but it’s hard to imagine that it would be popular in most parts of the world. you can’t. . I think the web app worked much better.

It’s certainly a problem, so I’m glad OnePlus and Oppo took the time to develop tools for this. But simply forcing iPhone users to download an app is not the solution.

If it were even slightly simpler, the “green bubble” drama would never have existed.

Would you like to use this new tool?
