OnePlus 13 beats Apple, Google and Samsung in IP rating

OnePlus 13 IP68 and IP69 trimmed

TL;DR

  • The upcoming OnePlus 13 will get IP68 and IP69 ratings.
  • The latter rating means the phone can withstand high temperature and high pressure water jets.
  • This means the OnePlus 13 has a better IP rating on paper than phones from Apple, Google, and Samsung.

One of the long-standing complaints about flagship OnePlus smartphones, including the OnePlus 12, is their lack of overall water resistance. However, the smartphone maker confirmed that the OnePlus 13 has great durability.

OnePlus announced on Weibo that the OnePlus 13 has both IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance. Please check the attached image below.

OnePlus 13 IP68 and IP69

An IP68 rating means it’s dust-resistant and can withstand being submerged in approximately 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. On the other hand, an IP69 rating means it must withstand high-pressure water flow at 80 degrees Celsius (176 degrees Fahrenheit).

In other words, the IP69 rating doesn’t exactly matter to many people, but it still makes for a more durable phone. Therefore, there is a special sense of security here. This rating also means that OnePlus 13 has a better IP rating on paper than the iPhone 16, Samsung Galaxy S24 series, and Google Pixel 9 series. This is also a welcome improvement compared to the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11, which have IP65 and IP64 splash resistance, respectively.

However, there is one concern. That’s whether all OnePlus 13 variants actually get these IP ratings. OnePlus 8, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 10 Pro do not have an IP rating unless you purchase a carrier model. So there’s a good chance this scenario will repeat itself when this phone is eventually released globally. Still, we’ve asked OnePlus about the IP rating of the global model and will update the article once we get a response.
