The 8th generation iPad Pro is Apple’s anticipated next premium tablet. The current model has a new processor, and we expect it to arrive this time as well. It’s still early and we won’t see any reliable rumors for a while, but here’s everything else the iPad Pro 8 can offer.
When will the iPad Pro 8th generation be released?
Apple releases new iPad Pro largely Every year. This discrepancy means you’re never completely sure when the next one will appear. Take the past few generations as an example.
- 7th generation iPad Pro: May 2024
- 6th generation iPad Pro: October 2022
- 5th generation iPad Pro: April 2021
- 4th generation iPad Pro: March 2020

Planned release date for Lifewire
At this point, early 2025 or 2026 is a reasonable outlook.
iPad Pro 8th generation price rumors
A look at the current iPad might give you an idea of what to expect in terms of pricing. In line with the 2024 iPad Pro, the 8th generation tablet is expected to come in two sizes: 11-inch and 13-inch. The two-screen option means there are two starting prices. Probably $999 for the smaller version and $1,299 for the larger model.
However, additional features cost more. Purchasing a cellular-enabled model with non-standard glass and the best storage options can cost as much as $2,599.
Pre-order information
Apple plans to announce the iPad at an event, with pre-orders starting the same day and expected to be available within a week.
iPad Pro 8th generation features
This iPad runs iPadOS 18. That version of the operating system was released in late 2024, so when the iPad Pro 8 arrives in the expected time frame of early to late 2025, it will include all the features of iPadOS 18. Otherwise, it will be a later release. In any case, Apple will probably emphasize improvements to Apple Intelligence above all else.
If you have an Apple Pencil Pro, it may work with this iPad. Apple typically maintains backwards compatibility with the Pencil over several generations of iPad. Plus, it just came out with the latest iPad Pro, and we don’t know when the 4th generation Apple Pencil will arrive.
iPad Pro 8th generation specifications and hardware
All new iPad Pros have newer processors. The M4 chip used in the 2024 iPad Pro is the latest generation of Apple silicon. The company says it’s a “huge leap forward in performance and functionality,” and expects it to repeat itself with whatever chip powers the iPad Pro 8. It’s called the Apple M5 (these iPad identifiers confirm the name).
The current iPad Pro has removed the 128GB storage option that was previously available on the 6th generation version. Don’t expect any new options, so there are four to choose from: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. As for RAM, Apple is offering 8 GB and 16 GB (a higher amount on the Terabyte model) starting in 2021, so we wouldn’t be surprised if 16 GB and 32 GB are added as options.
The M4 iPad Pro has what’s called a “tandem OLED,” which is basically two OLED panels stacked on top of each other. This technology provides increased brightness and even longer battery life. This was introduced in the 2024 iPad Pro. Barring any obvious shortcomings, it should make a comeback with this future iPad.
