Apple leaker Sonny Dickson posted an image of a case designed for the next iPhone SE 4, scheduled for release next spring. While the image doesn’t show any groundbreaking new details, it does highlight a few things you should expect from the iPhone SE.
single rear camera
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to be based on the design of the iPhone 14, but it won’t feature the same dual camera setup as the iPhone 14. In other words, it is expected that the iPhone SE will continue to have an ultra-wide-angle camera, but it will not have an ultra-wide-angle camera. 48MP main sensor, same as iPhone 15.
So even if you don’t have two physical rear camera sensors, there are two focal lengths: 1x (with a 48MP sensor and bins up to 12MP) and 2x (zooming in to 12MP in the middle of the 48MP). This sensor is described by Apple as offering optical quality.
physical mute switch
Previous iPhone SE rumors suggested that the device would feature an action button, but recent leaks (and this case leak) don’t seem to suggest that. There’s still a cutout for the mute switch in the top left, rather than a separate button, like on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer cases.
No camera control button
There are no leaks suggesting that Apple’s cheapest iPhone will have a new camera control slider/button coming to the iPhone 16 lineup, and these examples also suggest that. There’s no opening in the bottom right corner of the case, and there’s no cutout for a conductive crystal button like on Apple’s case.
summary
Apple is expected to release the iPhone SE 4 next spring for about $500. The next iPhone will likely feature a new 6.1-inch OLED display, USB-C, a new 48MP camera, Face ID, and more.
