According to IDC’s latest report, Nepal’s smartphone market shipped 548,000 units in the second quarter of 2024, registering a year-on-year growth of 77.8%. This upward trend has continued for three consecutive quarters, indicating a strong recovery and increasing consumer demand.
Nepal has 37.47 million mobile phone connections. Nepal has 15.4 million internet users and an internet penetration rate of 49.6 percent.
Nepal Telecom, Ncell Axiata, Nepal Satellite Telecom, Smart Telecom, and CG Telecom are the five telecom and mobile network operators operating in Nepal.

Xiaomi, Transsion, Samsung, Realme and Vivo will be the leaders in smartphones in Nepal in the second quarter of 2024.
While Transsion dominated the ultra-low-end segment, Xiaomi maintained its lead in the low-end segment for six consecutive quarters, achieving an impressive 122% year-on-year growth.
The Redmi 13C series has emerged as the most shipped model in the market. In the mid-range category, Samsung maintained its top position with a diverse lineup of models, with the Galaxy A15 driving sales.
Transsion also reported strong year-over-year growth of 71%, driven primarily by the popularity of its Spark Go 2024 model.
Introduction of 5G
The report highlights that 5G smartphone shipments have increased significantly, increasing by 212% year-on-year and now account for 34% of the total smartphone share.
Following Huawei’s recent 5G test report, Nepal’s new government has authorized the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to start auctioning 5G spectrum, paving the way for the expansion of 5G services in the country.
