Have you ever wondered what lurks in the galaxy beyond Earth? Well, this Halloween season, NASA is showing us some of the scariest parts of the galaxy.
The station has released a series of vintage-style horror movie-themed posters called “Galaxy of Horrors” that show what nightmares exist in space.
According to NASA’s website, the posters are based on real NASA science. This year’s poster features a screaming planet and eerie dark energy.
NASA’s “Roast Planet” poster depicts a screaming, screaming creature suffering “star-grazing torture” of groaning, supersonic winds and shockwave storms as it approaches a star from an extremely elliptical orbit. It is said to tell the eerie story of an exoplanet. To NASA.
According to NASA, the planet HD 80606 b reaches a scorching 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit every 111 days.
In the next spooky depiction, NASA gives dark energy a persona, making it evil.
In the poster, dark energy is depicted as a green space-like spirit with glowing eyes and large, pointy teeth. NASA says dark energy is bigger than dark matter because dark energy pushes galaxies apart over trillions of years. This will bring the universe to a dark, freezing death, NASA said.
In the past few years, NASA has dropped posters depicting more spooky phenomena, such as galactic graveyards and gamma-ray ghouls.
