Moto G Stylus 2024 became my favorite cheap phone with this Prime Day discount

I’m a fan of Moto G Stylus 2024. Motorola has done a great job with the hardware. Although I have my doubts about Moto’s software strategy, it’s hard to deny that the G Stylus is a great value. I thought it was worth the original asking price of $400, but it quickly became my favorite Prime Day sale at just $250. If you want to buy a well-equipped smartphone but don’t want to spend a lot of money, you’ll love this. Moto G Stylus 2024 I’ll make an offer.

Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) review: Great hardware ruined by bad software

Moto’s hardware continues to improve, so why can’t the Android experience keep up?

Why I love Moto G Stylus 2024

great display and performance

Moto G Stylus 2024 is sitting on the arm of the sofa and takes out the stylus. "Hello Android Police! I don't really like this stylus" written on the screen.

It starts with the display. Motorola has equipped the G Stylus with a gorgeous 6.7-inch P-OLED (symmetrical bezel) 1080p panel that refreshes at 120Hz. It’s poppy and saturated, which isn’t something you usually find at this price point. Colors are accurate and games and movies look great. Use the display 100% of the time when using your phone. So it’s nice to see companies not treat displays as an afterthought, especially when they cost less than $300.

When Motorola packed the Moto G Stylus 2024 with Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, I was skeptical. The company used the MediaTek Dimensity 7030 in mid-range devices such as the Motorola Edge 2024, so we were initially worried that the G Stylus might lack horsepower. Once I started using the phone, my anxiety immediately disappeared. The Moto G Stylus is snappy and responsive, with plenty of power for everyday tasks and light to moderate gaming. Genshin doesn’t show max frames, but Pokémon GO can throw you the best curveballs.

In addition to Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, Motorola has equipped the G Stylus with 8GB of RAM. RAM is often overlooked in midrange and budget phones, but it has a huge impact on the user experience. The more RAM you have, the smoother the UI will be, especially when you don’t have the raw horsepower of a flagship. Moto G Stylus also has a long battery life, delivering up to 8+ hours of screen time on a single charge.

No one will confuse the Moto G Stylus with a premium build. It has a plastic frame and there’s no Gorilla Glass to protect the front display. It also has a pretty lackluster mono speaker. However, what the G Stylus lacks in premium materials it makes up for in traditional features. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack and MicroSD card expandable storage — a rarity in 2024. I also like that the eco-leather back provides extra grip.

Motorola always has its pros and cons when it comes to software. The Moto G Stylus will receive one major Android upgrade, which is a bummer for 2024 at any price point. Motorola plans to provide at least three years of security patches, which should soften the blow. Additionally, Moto updates often take a while to roll out, so don’t expect a quick release of Android 15. In any case, I’ve compromised on this. The G Stylus has plenty of features, and despite the software misgivings, $250 is still a great value.

Motorola software support isn’t the best, but Hello UI, Moto’s new skin introduced in Android 14, is nice. All of Moto’s favorite gestures remain, and Moto’s UI needed a fresh coat of paint. I’d love to see the G Stylus come with an always-on display, but overall I’m enjoying the software experience on the G Stylus 2024.

I’ve been impressed with Motorola’s image improvements over the past few years. The Moto G Stylus isn’t going to produce photos on par with the Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy, but it does a decent job in the right lighting. The images are saturated so they look great on social media. I’d much rather have a low-cost camera system that fails at being too colorful than produce a stark, washed-out image. Photos get soft and grainy in low light and things fall apart, but at this price point it’s more than adequate.

Of course, there is also a stylus pen. It doesn’t have the features and functionality of Samsung’s S Pen, but I don’t care. It’s not a Bluetooth pen, but it does 95% of what you want a stylus to do. You can draw notes on the screen and mark up documents. Create funny GIFs, write on photos and send them to friends, or use them to scroll through websites. If you’re looking for stylus functionality at a fraction of the price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Moto G Stylus is an attractive option.

It’s hard to ask for more

Cellphones around $250 often have sub-par displays or middling output. I love the $250 Moto G Stylus 2024 because there are no compromises. The display is beautiful and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 was a surprise, offering great power for the price. If you’re looking for a good Prime Day sale, we think you can’t beat the Moto G Stylus 2024 at this price.

$350 400 dollars Save $50

If you’re in the market for a stylus phone and don’t want to break the bank, the Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) is hard to beat. With an upgraded 120Hz OLED screen, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage, the spec slider maxes out at the $400 price point and even better with the $250 Prime Day deal.
