‘MakerFaire’ focused on technology and gadgets will be held this weekend at Alexandria City High School

A showcase of family-friendly experiments and tools will be held this weekend at Alexandria City High School.

The 7th Annual MakerFaire NoVa is scheduled to be held at Alexandria City High School (3330 King Street) on Sunday, October 20th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“At the heart of MakerFaire is more than just showcasing gadgets and prototypes,” fair organizers said in a release. “This is a movement that encourages people from all walks of life to transcend the boundaries of everyday life and participate in the act of making. Whether you are an experienced engineer, an aspiring inventor, or a curious hobbyist, However, MakerFaire NoVa creates an environment where exploration and play collide. Some of the most innovative ideas emerge from these spaces.”

According to the website, MakerFaire will feature a number of booths focused on hands-on activities, from building robots to spinning yarn from wool.

This year’s featured product is the Starphone, described as a “reimagined public phone booth designed to bring back the essence of human connection in the digital age.”

The event is open to all ages, and parents are encouraged to bring their children and teens to spark an interest in STEM fields, according to the release. Advance tickets are $13 for adults, $4 for children, $10 for seniors/military, and $30 for families. Tickets are a little more expensive if you buy them at the counter.

“In a world where technological advancements often feel disconnected from ordinary people, MakerFaire NoVa 2024 reminds us that innovation is for everyone,” the release states. are. “This is a call to creators to keep experimenting, keep collaborating, and most importantly, share their work with the world. MakerFaire NoVa doesn’t just celebrate technology; it celebrates human ingenuity. It celebrates the spirit of ingenuity.”
