KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – It’s been more than a month since dozens of school threats put several schools in East Tennessee on lockdown and resulted in arrests across the region.
Knox County leaders are telling parents to talk with their children to prevent further threats, while also working on ways to remain proactive.
The Qustodio app was released for Knox County schools on Friday. This is an app that parents can use to monitor their children’s online activities outside of school hours.
“Parents are used to having tools for the devices they own, but when it comes to school devices managed by, say, Google, things get a little more complicated,” said Freddie Cox, chief technology officer at KCS. “It will be.”
The app aims to help parents understand how much their children are using school-issued tablets, and also allows families to see what the tablets are being used for after school. can.
Through Qustodio, you can see the minutes and hours students are using their tablets for homework and academic websites, while monitoring non-school-related searches.
“This starts a dialogue between students and parents. Both parents and schools. Everyone knows what their children are doing and learning while they are at home. “So that we can do that,” Cox said.
The app also gives parents the ability to pause their tablet’s internet connection after school, allowing families to choose how much screen time their students should have.
