The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is not expected to be Samsung’s only foldable device under the “Fold” brand this year. Samsung should also launch an ultra-slim version of the phone, which we’re calling the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE. The nickname may not bother most people, as Samsung plans to launch this foldable model in some markets, most likely China and South Korea.
Still, the prospect of a slimmer Fold is exciting because it shows Samsung is getting closer to matching similar products from its competitors. Honor’s Magic V2 made headlines last year for being about half as thick as an iPhone when unfolded. The Magic V3, which debuted this summer, is even thinner.
This is not limited to the production of thin foldable smartphones, but applies to the production of thin smartphones in general. In fact, I’m far more excited about the arrival of the iPhone 17 Air than I am about the foldable smartphone.
Returning to the ultra-thin Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE, this device is still just a rumor. According to reports, Samsung was supposed to start selling the iPhone 16 in some markets in late September, right after its launch, but that didn’t happen.
However, a prominent leaker just posted what appears to be a partial image of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE, so the announcement may not be far away.
Evan Blass shared what appears to be a profile of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE on the X. The slim chassis is painted in a gold/pink hue. You can see the screen bezel, antenna wire, volume rocker, and power button with built-in fingerprint sensor.
If this is the ultra-slim Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE, it should be folded. It could be part of Samsung’s official marketing images for the device. The reason for this cropping is likely to prevent Samsung from deleting photos from the X via deletion requests.
How do we know it’s the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE and not something else? Well, it’s not. The leaker posted the photo on Saturday without providing any context.
But if you’ve been following Galaxy leaks for as long as I have, this image will probably look familiar. That’s because another leak from early September actually featured the entire purported design of the ultra-thin Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE. Here’s what that leak looks like:
A strange photo posted by Blass shows a phone casing that looks very similar to the one leaked in September. We couldn’t confirm either leak, but the images dating back to September make sense. This is what I expect from Samsung when it comes to making thin, foldable devices. Meanwhile, Blass regularly creates images of unreleased Samsung products, and they are usually correct.
That being said, we don’t know when Samsung will unveil the ultra-thin Galaxy Z Fold 6 variant. It may happen really quickly, or you may have to wait longer. Blass did not mention the phone’s release date.
As a buyer, I’m not looking forward to it either. But I’m interested to see what Samsung has done to create a rival to the Magic V3 that will primarily target Chinese buyers. The various innovations needed to achieve such thin foldable devices, such as improved display technology, thinner batteries, and thinner but stronger chassis, could be important for future smartphone designs. .
