Based on a recent update to Apple’s support documentation, Apple’s satellite roadside assistance feature for iPhone is now available in the UK.

apple road service
This quiet announcement follows Apple’s announcement during September’s iPhone 16 event that the feature will be expanded to the UK later this year.

Satellite-based roadside assistance allows iPhone users to contact breakdown service even in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. British breakdown service Green Flag has partnered with Apple to use this feature to provide assistance to stranded motorists in areas with poor connectivity.

According to an updated support page, the service is available to non-Green Flag members on a pay-as-you-go basis, but specific pricing details were not disclosed. Apple offers free satellite service for the first two years, including roadside assistance, when you purchase an iPhone 14 or newer.

Apple says users must be in an open area with a clear view of the sky and horizon for satellite-based roadside assistance to work when out of cell phone or Wi-Fi range.

To use this feature, open the Messages app and start a new message. Then enter “roadside” in the address field and you’ll see the “Roadside Assistance” option. Tap Roadside Assistance and follow the onscreen instructions to connect your iPhone to the satellite and call for help.

This feature is compatible with iPhone 14 and later models running iOS 17 and later. This UK expansion follows partnerships Apple established with AAA and Verizon Roadside Assistance in the US.

(Thanks, Jack!)
