The iPhone 16 series was released just a few weeks ago, but there are already a lot of features rumored for the iPhone 17 models, especially the Pro models.
Here are the five major new features rumored for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max so far.
- 24MP front camera for all iPhone 17 models: All four iPhone 17 models will have an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera, according to Apple supply chain analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu. For comparison, all four iPhone 16 models have 12-megapixel front-facing cameras.
- 48MP rear telephoto camera for iPhone 17 Pro Max, and possibly iPhone 17 Pro: The iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to have an upgraded 48-megapixel telephoto camera compared to the 12-megapixel telephoto camera on the iPhone 16 Pro model. It has not been ruled out that this change may also be applied to the iPhone 17 Pro, but it may not be applied to smaller Pro models up to the iPhone 18 Pro.
- 12GB RAM for iPhone 17 Pro Max: The 12GB RAM increase is rumored to be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This benefits Apple Intelligence and multitasking performance. iPhone 16 Pro Max comes with 8GB of RAM.
- Small dynamic island for iPhone 17 Pro Max: Another rumored change exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max is a “significantly narrower dynamic island” that results from hardware changes to the Face ID system.
- Battery removal is now easier: iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus batteries use an innovative type of adhesive that can be loosened with low voltage current from a 9V battery or other power source. This change does not apply to iPhone 16 Pro models, but is rumored to apply to iPhone 17 Pro models.
One change that is no longer expected on iPhone 17 Pro models is Face ID at the bottom of the screen.
The iPhone 17 Pro models are scheduled to launch in September 2025, so there’s still plenty of time until launch, and more details will likely emerge in the coming months.
