iPhone 16 users complain that iOS 18’s battery drains too fast

Reddit, Apple Support Communities, and mcroomers forum. Although many of the reports are from iPhone 16 users, older iPhones running iOS 18 may also be experiencing battery life issues.

iPhone 16 Pro Max
There’s a long-running thread complaining about battery life in iOS 18. mcroomers This started while the update was still in beta, but a new wave of complaints arose following the release of iOS 18 and the debut of iPhone 16 models.

Affected iPhone 16 owners are experiencing significant battery drain even when the iPhone is not in use. from mcroomers Leader T1aaj:

Yes, I own a 16 pro and the battery life drops from 100% to almost 60% in half the day unless I use it a lot. Definitely needs to be fixed. I should have stayed with the 15 Pro.

From Julian L:

The battery life on the new 16 Pro Max is terrible. I upgraded from a 15 Pro Max – upgraded to iOS 18 and had 99% battery health at the time of sale. Apple announced that they had improved the battery life specs for the 16, so I was looking forward to seeing how much longer it would last. What’s the answer? Compared to the 15 Pro Max from a year ago, the time between charges has been reduced by 50-60%. I’m really disappointed. I keep all settings the same, such as disabling background refreshes globally, setting max screen refresh to 60Hz, and locking data to 4G (for my use case, even with all these settings set, the phone You’re better off setting it up as I don’t see any difference in functionality (optimal battery life). I got it at 4pm on the release date, so I’m currently on day 19. Initial indexing and other background configuration work should be completely finished by now.

In some cases, much of the battery drain occurs when the iPhone is not in use and in standby mode, suggesting that background activity may be causing problems for some users. Masu. Using the phone in these cases seems to drain the battery less.

From huanbrother:

The 16 Pro has terrible standby battery life when it sleeps (not connected to an Apple Watch), and as you can see from the graph, background activity runs like crazy. But guess what, to turn off AOD (shouldn’t be the case if it’s turned off in sleep mode), turn off promotions, booms, background fads, frame limits for accessibility (low power mode I turned it on (not) and it disappeared! However, the battery drain was not fixed, draining by 11% from 70% to 59% in 4 hours and 20 minutes.

From Kirby Smart Dawg:

Clearly something is wrong on Apple’s side. Excessive battery drain when idle. When I unplugged my phone at 9am this morning, the charge stayed at 95% (at its full charge) for only 20 minutes and then started to drop rapidly. I lost a percentage every 5 minutes and finally picked it up to use it. It seems to be a bit more stable now, but I’m really confused by this behavior.

Reddit has similar complaints about the iPhone 16 model and older iPhones running iOS 18, although we always see reports of battery life issues when a new version of iOS is released. It seems like the number of people running iOS 18 is definitely increasing. problem.

From Reddit user Ok-Interest-6561:

I upgraded from my iPhone 12 and bought the new 16 Pro. My upgrade was mainly due to battery and speaker issues, but even though the 16 has a “better battery” and longer battery life, I can just sit it on my bedside table without doing anything. I find that I consume about 10-15% in the evening.

On Reddit, a user claimed to have experimented with an “iPhone 16 Pro” and an iPhone 14 Pro, and used both equally. The iPhone 16 Pro’s battery life dropped to 58 percent within 36 hours, compared to 85 percent for the iPhone 14 Pro.

Diagnosing battery drain issues can be difficult because iPhone usage habits vary widely from person to person and from day to day. Affected users have tried turning off ProMotion, disabling Always On display, turning off background app refresh, removing widgets, turning off cellular, and completely resetting the iPhone. While some people have seen improvements with some of these methods, not everyone has, and for many people, troubleshooting doesn’t resolve their battery life issues.

While some users reported improvements in iOS 18.0.1 and iOS 18.1 Beta, the software update doesn’t work for everyone. It’s unclear exactly what’s impacting the battery, but there appears to be an underlying bug that Apple will need to fix in a future iOS 18 update.
