iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models appear to be most affected by this bug.

Owners of iPhone 16 devices, especially those who purchased the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, say their units freeze and then restart seemingly randomly.

Numerous reports on Apple Support Communities, Reddit, and other web forums suggest that an unknown number of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are experiencing issues out of the box. In both cases, your iPhone suddenly becomes very slow or completely unresponsive to input, and then suddenly restarts.

According to some reports, affected iPhones may crash while in standby mode and then restart, resulting in users being taken to the home screen on startup instead of where they left off. Masu. A recent update to iOS 18.0.1 doesn’t seem to have fixed the problem, with reports suggesting that freeze/crash cycles can occur up to 20 times a day. mcroomers.

Even owners who brought home iPhone 16 models are reporting issues with replacement iPhones as well. One user reported that restoring his iPhone 16 from a backup on his Mac instead of iCloud resolved the issue.

Users say that when they bring their units into an Apple Store for diagnostics, a simple reinstallation of the software usually resolves the problem. However, some users claim that performing a complete erase and reinstalling worked for them.

Apple has not commented on the issue, but some users have suggested that an iCloud sync issue may be the culprit. If correct, it suggests that Apple could fix the issue in a future iOS update.

The scale of the issue is unknown and is far from affecting all users.

Separately, sales of the entire iPhone 16 series have been lackluster so far, except in China, where the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro versions still account for the majority of iPhones purchased.
